Balancing your diet not only involves eating from all of the seven food groups, it also requires a balancing of energy too. Yin symbolizes cold, slow and passiveness while yang symbolizes hot, excitement and action. Foods that are low energy (cold) are vegetables, fruits and other raw foods. Meat and other animal products are high-energy foods that help keep the body warm. Read on to learn how to eat a balanced yin and yang diet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Start keeping a list of everything you eat on a daily basis. Figure out what you eat more of—low energy or high-energy foods.
Step2
If you do not eat breakfast, start eating breakfast. Begin with something small like a breakfast bar that you can eat on your way to work then later make time for things like blueberry waffles or eggs.
Step3
Design a meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Have a balance between low energy and high-energy foods for each meal or have snacks between meals to create a balance.
Step4
If you are a vegetarian/vegan or are someone who eats more low energy foods, try incorporating ginger into your meals. Soba noodles with a ginger sauce is a high-energy food compared to pasta with marinara sauce.

Tips & Warnings

  • After each meal, write a sentence in your journal about how you felt. Were you more or less energized? This can help you plan your meals better.
