Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Phone book
  1. Step 1

Contact your insurance company to find out if they cover acupuncture treatments. If your insurance carrier will not cover the sessions, plan on spending $50 to $65 per each hour treatment.

  2. Step 2

Decide whether or not you can deal with needles in your skin. Because the needles are as thin as a piece of hair, some people cannot feel them when they penetrate the skin. However, some experience tingly sensations or pain when the acupuncturist manipulates the needles with his/her hands.

  3. Step 3

Acupuncture is often the treatment of choice when people have tried everything else, so if you are suffering from an illness or disease that cannot be treated by Western medicine, give acupuncture a try.

  4. Step 4

Look up local acupuncturists in the phone book. Ask them some questions or concerns you have and find out if they provide free consultations.

  5. Step 5

Acupuncture treatment is safe as long as the treatment is received from a licensed practitioner and sterile, nontoxic needles are used. Make sure to verify this information with the person performing your acupuncture treatment.

  6. Step 6

If you are going through a stressful time in your life and you want to try something different, acupuncture may be the treatment method for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Educate yourself. Do research on acupuncture and the person performing your treatment.
  • Talk to your family doctor and find out if they recommend that you try acupuncture.

on 3/22/2008 Good article! I had acupuncture when I was in labor! My midwife did it on me to help speed up delivery. Boy did it ever! I just popped the kidling out!
