First of all, there are congratulations in order for the simple fact that you are stepping up to the plate to begin paying on any child support that you may be behind on. With life being so uncertain and any number of obstacles that can come your way, this is a big and very important step to take.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Your finances for reveiwing
  • Paperwork from your employer
  • A lawyer (not always necessary, but it doesn't hurt)
  • A rough draft of your future financial responsibilities.
Step1
If you are lucky, then you will be able to communicate with the other parent in order to set up some sort of a payment schedule to get you back on track. When there was a certain amount delegated by the courts that you should be paying, you need to start paying that amount on time again, while also setting up some way to pay the rest back little by little.
Step2
You may find that you will end up having to go to court to get some sort of a payment schedule in place. Having a lawyer there to work with you will give you the best protection against having too much money taken from you all at once, which can leave you financially unstable. Of course, this can lead to you becoming behind on payment again, so you should make sure that all of your financial ducks are in a row.
Step3
Child support is there to help... Child support is there to help... Gather up any and all paperwork or proof of child support payments that you have in your possession. This can help you to come to a total amount that you owe and then you can work from there.
Step4
Get yourself back on track and paying your child support in a timely manner. If by any chance you have to miss a payment, then you need to get back on track for the next one and pay up for what you missed. Falling behind on even one payment can get you into trouble again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Working out any issues with child support can only help your family unit.
  • By supporting your children, you can rest assured that you are doing all that you can to make sure they are financially stable and have the items that they need for school and beyond.
  • Never, under any circumstances should child support payments be discussed around your children. You need to deal with these issues as the adults and parents.
  • Don't just assume that because you are paying child support that you can come and go in your child(ren's) lives as you please. All kids need to be on a schedule, even if it is with your visits.
