How to be a Good Neighborhood Watch Neighbor.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH.

The main thing to do is watch out and protect your neighbors and for them to watch out for you and your family. There are too many BAD things happening in the world today. I am so sad about it, and the only thing we can really do about it is to watch out for each other.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Signs and window stickers from your local police department.
  • The desire to help keep your neighborhood crime free.
  • Phone.

Step1
Your neighborhood. Talk to everyone in your neighborhood and find out if they are all in agreement with the neighborhood watch program. Be sure to explain the benefits of having a neighborhood watch.
Step2
Meeting with neighbors. Agree on a planned monthly meeting to keep up to date on what's happening and discuss whatever needs to be talked about, Like what's been happening, what neighbors have seen or heard or any other ideas that everyone might have. Have everyone bring a food dish, that would be fun.
Step3
Food for the meeting. YUM! Everyone brings a dish to the meeting, because we don't want the meeting to be only all business, these are our neighbors, lets make it not only rewarding, but fun. I would probably bring a recipe that Jeff's Grrrrrrt! has called How to Cook Bacon Cheddar Mushrooms at http://www.ehow.com/how_2147020_cook-bacon-cheddar-mushrooms-recipe.html . I think there are so many great recipes and food ideas here on eHow that it really is kind of hard to decide, but there is plenty to go around. What do you think?
Step4
Talk about anything unusual that has happened. At the meeting, ask if anyone has seen, heard of or experienced anything unusual around the neighborhood.
Step5
Introduce ourselves to new neighbors. Has anyone new moved into the neighborhood? If so lets introduce ourselves and invite them to join the meetings, if they don't want to come to the meetings, we can let them know that we all try to watch out for each other and we will let them know if we notice anything suspicious around the' re home.
Step6
Call 911 if something is wrong. If we notice something wrong, don't try to handle it ourselves, call 911. It's just not worth the chance anymore. Make sure our kids understand about 911.
Step7
Check your neighbors mail while they are away. Check on our neighbor if we haven't seen them as we usually do. Let our neighbors know when we will be out of town, so that they can help to just keep an eye out, and do the same for them. Maybe even get each others mail If there wasn't enough time to let the postman know that you will be gone.
Step8
Invite Police officers to your meeting. Contact your local police department, they would love to send officers to your Neighborhood Watch meeting. They have a lot of great information and advice to share with everyone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get the word out that you live in a neighborhood that has neighborhood watch and are serious about it.
  • It's best if you don't try to handle a situation yourself, but if it's something you have to do, make sure you or someone else calls 911 first.

on 12/9/2007 Well put. I love the neighborhood watch director who lives across the street. I know if all else fails she will make sure the police or fire department are there before anything too bad happens to my house. HEY bake these people cookies. They are your last line of defence nosey or not!
