First of all let me commend you highly on your great decision. While state child support laws are different in every state, you should study yours like your life depends on it. Read on to learn how to start paying child support when you haven't paid in years.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Broadband cable access
  • Pad and pens
  • Telephone
  • Yellow Pages
  • Book of stamps and a box of envelopes

    Legal Ease

  1. Step 1
Study those laws until you own them.
Study those laws until you own them.

If you could find a lawyer willing to simply forward your checks to the child support division every week, month or how ever often you wish to pay that would be great. In some parts of the country that might be possible and for very little money. However, I am going to approach this as if you have tried and cannot go the lawyer route. So in that case Step 1 would be to familiarize yourself with child support laws in your state.

  2. Step 2
    Be creative.
    Be creative.

Cook up a plan. Common sense tells us that no one wants to arrest a parent that is at least trying to do right. So plan out how much you want to pay and how often.

  3. Step 3
    Get a money order.
    Get a money order.

Don't be crazy, be methodical. Whatever the amount is that you are going to be paying go get a money order for that amount.

  4. Step 4

Get a mail forwarding service. For instance if you live in New York you could make it appear that the money is coming from California anywhere. This service is cheap and keeps the folks downtown off of you while you are getting caught up.

  5. Step 5

Put the money order in an envelope with some identifying data, so that it is applied to the correct account. Don't send it just yet.

  6. Step 6

When you have accumulated at least three payments mail them out three days apart. This will have an impact and officials will see that this a serious move on your part.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure you engage a mail forwarding service. this will give you a return address that won't get you located.
