If you have ever wondered how graphic designers make those cool event flyers out of photographs, you're about to learn the secret. Well, one of the secrets, that is. Almost any good picture can be turned into a flyer using PowerPoint and a little creative ingenuity. Read on to learn how to create flyers with your photos in PowerPoint.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • A photo to work from
  • An event to advertise
  • A copy of Microsoft PowerPoint

Step1
Choose a picture that resonates with what you want your flyer to convey. For example, if you are advertising a concert, you could use a picture of the band that's scheduled to perform. If you are publicizing a bake sale, you might use a photo of the charity that will benefit from the proceeds.
Step2
Open PowerPoint. If a new slide doesn't appear in the pane, click "File" and "New" to get started.
Step3
Insert your photo onto the slide by clicking "Insert," "Image," then "From File." A browsing window will open and allow you to select the picture you want to use.
Step4
Stretch the photo to fit the slide by pulling from one corner of the image. This makes certain the picture will enlarge without distorting. However, if your picture is not standard sized, it may distort anyway. If this happens, simply resize the picture to a reasonable shape. You can always change the background color of your slide by choosing "Format" from the top toolbar, and selecting "Background" from the drop-down menu. A dialog box will appear with color choices.
Step5
Now, draw a text box on your slide by clicking on "Insert" on the top toolbar and selecting "Text Box" from the drop-down list. Type your message in the box. Remember to be creative with wording, font sizes and colors. Set the fill color for the text box to "No Fill" by clicking on the fill color icon along the bottom toolbar (a paint bucket). Be sure to have the text box selected when you do this or no changes will take place.
Step6
Now that you have your image and your text, play around with the layout a little. You can move the text box, shrink the picture, or add more pictures and text boxes.
Step7
When satisfied with your final draft, click "File" and "Save As" and give your flyer a name. If you plan to repost the flyer as an image on a site such as MySpace, you'll want to save your file as a jpeg. If not, simply print your flyer and start posting it.
