How to Reduce Stress Through Breathing

  1. Step 1

Start by sitting or standing or lying down on your back in a relaxed position. The goal is to be comfortable with a natural spine but without slouching. Arms should hang or rest at the sides of your body. Take a moment to really feel your body.

  2. Step 2

All inhaling is done through your nose, all exhaling, through the mouth.

  3. Step 3

Exhale all the breath from you body. Squeeze your abdominals to get all the air out.

  4. Step 4

Inhale slowly through your nose, counting to five in your head.

  5. Step 5

Exhale even slower through your mouth, counting to ten.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat breathing sequences several times.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you inhale, your stomach should swell with air. Try to keep your shoulders from rising. The goal is to keep the muscles in the shoulder and neck soft and relaxed.
