How to Store Christmas Items

Taking down Christmas decorations need not be a chore. Follow these tips to make the job easier.

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic "tote" containers with lids.
  • Old newspapers.

    How to Store Christmas Items

  1. Step 1

    Remove hanging items first, including the ornaments from tree and all the garland from the tree as well as from around the house.

  2. Step 2

    Wrap glass items in layers of newspaper to prevent breakage.

  3. Step 3

    Remove strings of lights and wrap them around square pieces of cardboard for easier access next year.

  4. Step 4

    If you had a real tree, purchasing one of those large garbage bags for Christmas trees is an excellent idea.

  5. Step 5

    Place window "clings" back onto the sheets they came on.

  6. Step 6

    Secure all boxes with tape and label them.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want to spend money on plastic totes, cardboard boxes will do.
  • If you are storing items in an attic, make sure you wrap candles and other plastic decorations in some kind of insulated material. The sometimes extreme heat of summer will melt these items.
