How to Get Your Buggy Unstuck from the Sand

  1. Step 1

If you are hitting the sand dunes, try to pack a small folding shovel in your buggy or sand rail.

  2. Step 2

If you happen to run into soft sand, or a witch’s eye, use your shovel and dig out your tires that are stuck. Do Not start or try to move the buggy unless your tires are unburied below the rim.

  3. Step 3

Once tires are unburied, start the buggy. If you were headed down a hill, try to move the front end of the buggy so it’s facing down hill (if you have muscles and people with you, this will be easy!).

  4. Step 4

Put the buggy in gear, and pull out of the hole, and head down the hill!

  5. Step 5

If you are in a bowl or witch’s eye, and heading uphill, you’ll want to start the buggy after you get the tires unburied, and pull it out BACKWARDS first…Back out of the hole, and back down the hill.

  6. Step 6

Sometimes, you won’t get unstuck without a little bit of a pull … if this happens, flag down the first quad or buggy that can help you … pull out your tow rope, and give it a tug!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t leave your radio in camp … you never know what can happen out there, or when you will need help!! ALWAYS have two-way communication between riders and camp!!
  • Take plenty of water … if you get stuck in the heat of the day, it could take you quite awhile before you get out or help comes your way!!
  • ALWAYS know where you are and where camp is … you’ll never get lost!!
  • Drive with Care!!

on 8/1/2009 If you haven't done so, you may need to take out some air pressure from the tires so they have more contact surface to the ground. Don't take too much though, or the tires may get unset from the wheels, or the wheels may begin to spin inside the tires. If this happens, sand may get inside the tires' rims and begin to loose air.

Also, if you happen to find wood lying around somewhere, you may want to slip it under the traction wheel(s).

Don't just keep accelerating, because the wheels will dig in the sand and the vehicle bottom will sit on the sand and then the situation will become more difficult.

If this happens, you will need to take out as much sand as you can from under the vehicle, otherwise, it won't move. You may want to use a jack or any other means to lift your car.

Don't forget to make sure sure front wheels are pointing straight ahead.

In some situations, a couple of ...
