How to Dispose of a Dead Bird

There is nothing worse than finding a dead bird in your yard, however, death is a natural part of the living cycle. Birds die for a variety of reasons such as accidents, predators, or disease. Since the cause of death is not always obvious, it is best to be cautious when handling the disposal of a dead bird. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 plastic bags
  1. Step 1

    Place your hand in the first plastic bag.

  2. Step 2

    Using your protected hand, pick up the bird.

  3. Step 3

    Pull the bag off your hand and over the bird.

  4. Step 4

    Knot the bag to prevent the dead bird from falling out.

  5. Step 5

    Place the first bag into the second bag. Knot the second bag.

  6. Step 6

    Place the bag with the dead bird into your outside garbage can for removal.

  7. Step 7

    Wash hands thoroughly with soap and hot water, even if you know you didn’t come in contact with the dead bird.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a shovel to pick the dead bird. Be sure to disinfect the shovel after use.
  • Never touch a dead bird with your bare hands.
  • Keep children and pets away from dead birds.
  • If at all possible, never bring the dead bird into your home. If the bird died in your home, wash and disinfect any surface the bird may have come in contact with.
