    How to Choose Knitting Needles

  1. Step 1

Know your choices. Knitting needles are available in a number materials--aluminum, nickel-plated, bamboo, wooden, plastic and even glass!

  2. Step 2

Are you interested in a flexible needle? If you answer yes, you might try plastic needles. They are sleek, so are a better choice for seasoned knitters. Plastic needles are usually the least expensive, too.

  3. Step 3

Just learning to knit? Try wooden needles or bamboo. They are smooth but the stitches don't move as easily on them. This will give you more control and reduce your frustration with dropped stitches!

  4. Step 4

Want to hear you knitting? Sounds funny, but some knitters love the clicking sound of aluminum or nickel-plated needles. They are the heaviest. They are also super sleek; so they make a good choice for a experienced knitter.
