Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
First:
First of all, this article does not take you through all the necessary steps to actually build a "Working Wiki". Rather, it provides an overview of what a Wiki is, how it works, and where to look for more information, including sites where free Wiki pages may be set up (with registration, normally).
Step2
Example:
The best (and largest) example of a Wiki site is the "free encyclopedia" known as WikipediA (see link below). WikipediA is literally created by online contributors, and anyone may edit content and pages (registration recommended for your protection, though not required).
Step3
The Build:
Wiki building is not for everyone, but a number of sites offer free access to wysiwyg editors, and there are numerous other sites out there that detail how to go about actually building your own Wiki site. See the links below for more information.
Step4
MediaWiki--if you really want to try it yourself!:
MediaWiki is the web application used for creating Wiki sites. MediaWiki is in open-source, simplified markup language that manages to minimize the HTML tags so the code is more 'readable' by human beings! Nice touch!
