Whether it's a midlife crisis or the need for speed or a desire to get out of your box, skateboarding can be fun--even if you are a mom, or just an older skater. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Skateboard
  • Skateboard Helmet
  • Elbow, Knee and Wrist pads
  • A friend to skate with

Step1
Go to skateboardmom.com.
Step2
Click on the link: International Society of Skateboarding Moms.
Step3
Click on Yahoo Groups. That takes you to the organization's message board.
Step4
Sign up to be part of the group and start reading and posting messages and questions about skateboarding. The moms and "aunties," the women who aren't mothers (everyone can join, even men), are friendly and there are people at many skill levels.
Step5
Learn as much as you can about skateboarding.
Step6
When you're ready to give it a go, head back to the International Society of Skateboarding Moms and click on Club Page.
Step7
There you will find a list of women who skateboard. See if someone lives nearby. You can also post a message on Yahoo Groups. But make sure it's generic for safety. For example, does someone live in the city of Costa Mesa? That way, you can make arrangements via email.
Step8
Meet up with your friend and skate away.

Tips & Warnings

  • No kids necessary. You can just be an older student.
  • Skateboarding is a dangerous sport, so start out slow and get together with someone who knows more than you.
  • Never post your phone number or address or even full name on a message board.
