The front door is most likely one of the focal points in your entryway, dominating the space with its size. Have you ever considered using that big space as a display surface for the greeting cards you receive? If you have a steel door, the decorated magnets below will allow you to display your colorful and cute holiday, birthday, or any other cards. Plus, it will liven up your entry door.

This idea came to me because each year I've used my front door to showcase my family's Christmas cards. The annual Christmas Card Door is a traditional part of my holiday decorating. Now, instead of scraping scotch tape off the door each year, I'll pop off these decorated magnets and use them again next year. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Magnets with adhesive backing-1/2 wide strips or small circles
  • Cardstock
  • Rubber stamps (up to 2 inches in diameter)
  • Inkpad
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Choose your cardstock, inkpads and rubber stamps based on either a celebration theme or to match the décor of the entryway. Examples:
    * Winter-snowflake stamp, blue ink, white cardstock
    * Christmas-candy cane, stocking, Christmas tree, reindeer stamps, red, white, gold, silver and/or green color scheme for cardstock and inks
    * Everyday-balloons, confetti, sunflower, any colors to match the décor
    * Birthday-birthday cake, candles, party hats

  2. Step 2

Stamp as many images as you want to make into magnets.

  3. Step 3

Cut the cardstock around each stamped image.

  4. Step 4

If using magnetic strips, cut into pieces slightly smaller than your cutout images.

  5. Step 5

Peel the adhesive backing on the magnets and attach to the backside of the stamped image.

  6. Step 6

These magnets are now ready to use on any magnet surface, such as the steel entry door.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of rubber-stamping images to decorate the magnets, recycle your old greeting cards by cutting out cute and colorful pieces. Then attach to the magnets.
  • If you don't have adhesive-back magnets use a hot glue gun or tacky glue to attach the cardstock to the magnet.
  • Since these magnets will stick metal surfaces, use them to leave notes and messages to your family all over your house!
