Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Large heavy-bottom pan with a lid
  • Tablespoon measure
  • ½ cup measure
  • 3 tbsp. cooking oil
  • ½ cup popping corn
  • Pot holders
  • Large mixing bowl
  • 1 cup measure
  • Small saucepan
  • Heat-resistant spoon
  • Butter knife
  • ½ cup peanut butter either creamy or crunchy
  • ½ cup honey
  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chip

Popping the Regular Popcorn

Step1
Measure 3 tbsp. cooking oil in a large, heavy-bottom pan.
Step2
Measure 1/2 cup popping corn and pour into pan.
Step3
Cover pan with lid, place on stove and turn heat to medium.
Step4
Listen for the sounds of the popcorn popping. When you hear the pops, use the pot holders to carefully lift the lid and allow the steam to escape, so the popcorn will stay light and fluffy. Replace the lid and continue popping.
Step5
Use the pot holders and shake the pan continually while the popcorn is popping to make sure every kernel is heated equally. When popping slows down to 3 to 5 between pops, remove from heat. Allow to cool a minute or two.

Make Chocolate Honeyed Peanut Butter Popcorn

Step1
Measure 6 to 7 cups of popped popcorn into large bowl.
Step2
Use the butter knife to scoop and measure the peanut butter into the measuring cup. Add the peanut butter to the small saucepan.
Step3
Measure the honey into measuring cup and pour into the peanut butter in the small saucepan.
Step4
Place saucepan on stove top and turn the burner on to medium. Heat and stir the peanut butter and honey until the mixture becomes thinner, almost to a liquid state.
Step5
Pour the heated peanut butter and honey mixture over popcorn.
Step6
Add the chocolate chips to popcorn mixture immediately.
Step7
Stir the mixture quickly, until the popcorn and chocolate chips are coated evenly with the peanut butter and honey mixture.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use caution when lifting the lid and lift away from you, as the steam can burn.
  • Microwave popcorn can be used in place of regular popping corn. A regular size bag of microwave popcorn will make 6 to 7 cups.
  • It’s important to add the chocolate chips soon after pouring the peanut butter and honey mixture and mix everything quickly.
  • Unlike popcorn balls, this mixture will not hold a shape.
  • Other ingredients may be added to this mixture, such as nuts or raisins.
  • Store the chocolate honeyed peanut butter popcorn in an air-tight container
  • Be careful if microwave popcorn is used because the bag releases steam when popcorn bag is opened.
  • Chocolate Honeyed Peanut Butter Popcorn is easy enough for children to make, however they should be supervised while popping the popcorn and melting the peanut butter and honey.
