You've spent years running and hiking. You've been up before dawn to complete PT (Physical Training). Now, you can finally relax, at least a little bit. Staying in shape once you are no longer in the military does not mean you need to continue to run five miles daily. Stay in shape and enjoy it at the same time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Motivation
  • A pair of exercise shoes

Step1
If you love it, keep working out like you always have. For some, running is enjoyable. Spending time alone running clears the head and lowers stress. If you can continue this level of exercise and want to, do it.
Step2
For everyone else, keep exercising in some form or another. Although you do not need to run five miles each day, you probably should be active for at least 30 minutes on at least three days out of the week. This includes walking, dancing, playing softball or other sports.
Step3
Stay active. Develop interests such as walking or gardening that will keep you physically active without forcing strenuous activity.
Step4
Watch your diet. If you are no longer exercising the same amount, you will need fewer calories. Avoid high-fat and high-calorie foods to keep that trim figure.
Step5
Keep a positive outlook. Happy people usually take good care of themselves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sign up for a team sport sponsored by your local recreation department.
  • Meet other active people at a gym or health club.
  • Make sure your health care provider okays your level of activity.
