Dusting the House

When cleaning a room, it's important to start from the top corners and ceiling and work down to the floor surface. This way, gravity takes over and any dust or dirt that falls at the higher levels will be swept or vacuumed away at the end of the cleaning.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long, medium and small-handled dusters
  • Dust cloths
  • Furniture polish

  • Vacuum
  • Dustpan/broom

Reach high with a long-handled duster and remove dust and cobwebs from the corners of the ceilings and the corners of the walls, sweeping downward. Shake the duster outside to remove debris.

  2. Step 2

Dust items that are above eye level (picture tops and furniture tops) with a medium-handled duster. Shake the duster outside to remove debris.

  3. Step 3

Dust items at eye level, such as the television and dresser tops. Use a small-handled duster or dust cloth. Polish wood surfaces with furniture polish.

Dust, polish, and/or scrub anything from hand level down, such as counter tops or wood surfaces.

  5. Step 5

Make sure to dust/clean surfaces just before ground level, such as baseboards and heaters. Shake the duster outside to remove debris.

  6. Step 6

Vacuum rugs or sweep and mop flooring.
