How to Know If You Are a Christian or Not

It is not unusual for Christians to wonder if they really are Christians--or if they are just people going to church every Sunday out of habit. Sometimes it’s the enemy planting thoughts of doubt and sometimes it’s us actually questioning the reality of our walk with God. Read on for a few questions to ask yourself that will help you to understand if you are a believing Christian or not. Only you will know the answers to them.

How to know if you are a Christian or not

1. Do you believe that Jesus is the son of God, that he was born of the virgin, Mary, and that He performed the miracles outlined in the New Testament? Do you share your beliefs with others? Or do you say nothing because it really doesn’t fit in with your social life and it’s never really been proven to you as a matter of fact anyway.
2. Do you believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross and that there was no sin or guile in Him, that when He was condemned He was still totally innocent of any wrongdoing? Or do you care?
3. Do you believe that He took your sins upon Himself as the reason for the punishment of the cross and then took them down to Hell? Or do you look around at this sinful world and doubt that that really happened?
4. Do you believe that on the cross Jesus gave back to you your right to perfect health? ‘By His stripes we are healed’? Or do you feel that God isn’t really able to heal some diseases otherwise why is Aids so strong in Africa?
5. Do you believe that He rose from the grave and lives with our Father in Heaven? Or do you feel that that is just too illogical to accept?
6. Do you believe in God’s grace? That Jesus sent the Holy Spirit back to earth to live in Christians so that He could have a constant relationship with them? Or do you believe that God just wants us to try to be good and do good works until we get to Heaven?
7. Do you believe that Jesus has prepared a place for you in Heaven, a place that fulfills all your dreams and desires? Or do you believe that all your treasures are what you get on earth?
8. Do you believe without any doubt that when you die, you will rest in God’s presence until judgment day when we will all rise to be with Jesus forever in Heaven? Or do you believe that your destination is the grave because that's something you can accept?
9. When things go great in life do you automatically thank God for them, either quietly to yourself or out loud? Or do you truly feel that they are just good things happening to you and shouting, Praise the Lord, would be too embarrassing?
10. When you’re in trouble or need help, do you ask God for help knowing that He can and will help you and do you look around expecting to see His help? Or do you ask everyone else instead?
11. Do you pray for others because you believe that God hears and answers prayer? Or do you pray as a matter of fact because it’s prayer time and everyone else is praying?
12. Do you ever just close your eyes and tell Jesus that you love Him for no specific reason, just because you do? Or do you feel you should wait until Sunday to do that in church when others are listening?

• Open your Bible and pray that God will enlighten you with the truth and then read about Jesus in the New Testament. The truth shall set you free.
