How to Make Dream Bars

Dream bars are a medley of all the great cookies and brownies you've learned to love. They're made with chocolate chips, coconut, almonds, butter, and sugar to make an addictive treat that has a magical quality about it. If you're looking for something new for the cookie tray or just need to indulge a little, here's how to make a batch of delicious dream bars.

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 cup fresh butter
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 9 x 13" baking pan
  • 2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 1 cup large chocolate morsels

Dream Bar Crust

Step1
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step2
Prepare the pan. Butter the baking pan and set aside.
Step3
Prepare the butter. Mix the butter and sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
Step4
Create the crust. Slowly add the flour and salt to the butter mixture until it resembles fine crumbs.
Step5
Prepare the cookie crust. Place the crumbs onto the greased pan and press down with a back of a spoon to create a firm crust.
Step6
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until light brown in color.
Step7
Remove from oven and leave to cool. Turn the heat of the oven up to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Dream Bar Filling

Step1
Prepare the sugar. Combine the sugar, flour and baking powder in a medium bowl.
Step2
Add filling ingredients. Stir in the coconut, almonds and chocolate morsels until well combined. Batter will be lumpy.
Step3
Prepare bars. Spoon the filling onto the baked crust and spread evenly with rounded knife or spoon. Pat down to even out as needed.
Step4
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until top is golden brown.
Step5
Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
Step6
Cut into squares or rectangles, and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings

  • Dream bars can be stored covered for about a week.
  • Serve them warm with whipped cream for a decadent treat.
