How to Become Involved with NARAL Pro-Choice America

NARAL Pro-Choice America’s mission is to develop and sustain a constitutional basis for the establishment of a political process that guarantees every woman the right to make decisions regarding a full range of reproductive health choices that include preventing unintended pregnancies, bearing healthy children and choosing legal abortion. For 30 years, NARAL has been one of the leading advocates for privacy and a woman’s right to choose. NARAL advocates and employs a variety of methods to ensure that women continue to enjoy their freedom of choice.

1. Elect pro-choice candidates. NARAL works to elect pro-choice candidates to public office through a variety of methods such as through political action committee (PAC) support and direct voter contact.
2. Join election season efforts. During campaign season, NARAL actively attempts to educate voters through direct education attempts, paid advertising, direct and online mail distribution and other “get-out-and vote” methods. Volunteering for voter education opportunities can help get pro-choice candidates elected to office.
3. Participate in organizing efforts. NARAL uses traditional, grassroots organizing efforts to educate, mobilize and empower activists to defend women’s right to choose.
4. Engage in lobbying efforts. NARAL works with lobbyists to influence Congress to support pro-choice legislation, support a woman’s right to choose and to expand women’s right and access to reproductive health care.
5. Stay abreast of current developments. NARAL is one of the only organizations that provide breaking news about state bills and enactments of state laws and mandates handed down from state and federal courts related to reproductive rights. NARAL staff a team of experts that monitor development on a daily basis.
6. Join affiliate in-state networks. NARAL works with state-based groups to advance the pro-choice legislative agenda and defeat anti-choice legislative efforts on a day-to-day basis.
