As much as we all love to celebrate during the holidays, they are the busiest time of year. People are often so busy preparing the family holiday and fretting about getting things done that they never have a chance to actually relax and enjoy it. Where’s the fun in that? Here’s a quick and simple way to get your friends and family together for a morning or afternoon filled with fun, laughter and great food. The preparation is fast and simple, so get ready to relax with this festive holiday brunch.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • An easy breakfast casserole recipe (see suggestions below)
  • Napkins
  • Disposable plates and utensils
  • Brunch cocktail recipe (like mimosa)
  • Holiday goodies
  • Holiday music
  • Christmas music
  • Decorations (according to preference)

Step1
Invite your guests. Don’t fuss on overly priced invitations; cut the cost and the time by personally inviting your friends with a quick phone call or use the Internet and create a quick evite on one of the various sources out there.
Step2
Prepare a deliciously simple menu and make everything ahead of time so that you’re not cooking while the rest of your guests are mingling. All of your food and drinks can be prepared the night before, except be sure to make a fresh pot of coffee and tea.
Step3
Make an egg casserole or quiche. Throw in all your breakfast favorites from sausage and bacon to green peppers and cheese. Both egg casseroles and quiches will take no more than 10 minutes to make and can be prepared the night before. Just stick it in the oven when your guests start to arrive, and you’ll have a tasty main dish once brunch is ready to be served.
Step4
Dress up the traditional brunch cocktail, like a mimosa, with a blood orange juice or cranberry and vanilla bean. Keep one pitcher of these in the cooler and another one with the guests so that people can refill at their leisure. For those craving a warm breakfast cocktail, you can’t go wrong with hot buttered rum.
Step5
Make an egg casserole or quiche. Throw in all your breakfast favorites from sausage and bacon to green peppers and cheese. Both egg casseroles and quiches will take no more than 10 minutes to make and can be prepared the night before. Just stick it in the oven when your guests start to arrive, and you’ll have a tasty main dish once brunch is ready to be served.
Step6
Set out some finger foods, sweet breads and other Christmas goodies like nuts and holiday GORP for people to much while they’re mingling. If you don’t have the time to make sweets and savories, grab some from your local bakery or grocer and nuke them for a bit before setting out.
Step7
Once your guests arrive hand them a yummy Christmas cocktail and invite them to cozy up around the fire or mingle with other guests. Throw on a mix of traditional and modern Christmas tunes for background music. Make sure it’s turned low enough that people don’t have to yell over it.
Step8
Don’t make it too difficult on yourself by trying to set a huge holiday table. This should be a leisurely brunch, so don’t be afraid to be informal. Set up a serve yourself table and let people plate themselves and continue to mingle. Make sure you have plenty of seating throughout the kitchen and living room for people who need to sit while they eat.
Step9
Invite your guests to bring cookies to share in lieu of a gift. During the holidays every get together seems to afford a gift, but you don’t want your friends to think that you need them to bring a gift. Tell them to make the easiest cookie or candy recipe they can find.
