How to Import Your GarageBand Projects to Logic

GarageBand is a fantastic audio recording application. Many songwriters use it for composing and quickly getting ideas recorded so they can further work with them later. But GarageBand does have its limits, and when you looking to add some advanced effects and processes to your song/project, the next step up is Logic by Apple, Inc. Thankfully, the process of getting those GarageBand files transferred over to Logic is easier than you may think.

How to Open GarageBand Files from within Logic

1. Launch Logic. From the FILE menu, select OPEN.

2. In the navigation window that appears, from the left column select Music.

3. In the middle column, select the GarageBand folder.

4. Navigate to the GarageBand file that you want to open in Logic and select it (single click). Click OPEN and you're done!

How to Open GarageBand Files from the Finder

5. Open a Finder window by double clicking on the hard drive icon (commonly labeled Macintosh HD).

6. Navigate to the GarageBand file you want to open. Unless you've moved the file to another location, the GarageBand folder is in Users/Music/GarageBand.

7. Single click on the file to select it. If you have a 2 button mouse, RIGHT-CLICK on the file and select OPEN WITH then select Logic. If you have a one button mouse you can hold down the OPTION key on your keyboard to bring up the contextual menu and then select OPEN WITH and then Logic. That's it!
