Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- A Passion for NFL Football
- A Knowledge of a Superior Team versus a Mediocre team
- Realization that you will often be Disappointed
- An Alternative Favorite Team
- Respect for their Accomplishments
- Time
- Patience
- Hope
Step1
Put your NFL passion on the line and be willing to cheer for a severe underdog. The Patriots rarely, if ever these days, lose. They are arrogant but they can beat you in countless ways. Be prepared to accept defeat as you root for the other team.
Step2
Know the reasons why the Patriots are so much better in every aspect of the game than their opponents. They are smart. They do not make stupid mistakes (like all the other 31 teams). This will help you stomach the game over the 4 hours since you will know it is not simply luck, they are outstanding and it is nauseating.
Step3
Accept the fact going into the contest that you will most likely not be happy at its conclusion. The Patriots will not blow you away every week, but they will always find a way to have the ball in the fourth quarter to beat you. A turnover, a penalty, a reversed challenge call, something will turn things in their favor. It is simply out of your control.
Step4
Have a favorite team of your own. This will help lighten the impact of weekly Patriots wins and Super Bowl appearances. It serves as an ideal diversion to what the Patriots, often the national game of the week, will undoubtedly do earlier or later that Sunday or Monday.
Step5
Respect them. Root like crazy for the other team but respect how great they are. They're human beings just like the other players on opposing teams and they work hard to be as good as they are from the coaches down to the players.
Step6
Hope against hope. Keep your fingers crossed for a miracle. Bad weather, a slippery football, turnovers. Those are pretty much your only chances of a Patriots loss.
