Things You'll Need:
- An Open Mind
- Specialty Food Stores
- Farm Stands
- Grocery Store
- Restaurants
- Patience and a Sense of Adventure
-
Step 1
Firmly establish rule one, which is she must try something once. If she does not like it, she does not have to eat any more, but she must at least try it.
-
Step 2
Visit a specialty food store, a cheese shop or a farm stand. If you do not have any of these stores nearby, your local grocery store will do. Expose her to the sights and smells of different cheeses, herbs, spices, meats and vegetables. Quite often you will find store samples that you can try and share.
-
Step 3
Find a food that is similar in texture or color to a food he likes. For example, if his favorite cheese is yellow American cheese, have him try a piece of a good mild cheddar cheese.
-
Step 4
Do not always tell her exactly what she is eating. Quite often she will resist tasting something because she thinks she will not like it. After she has tasted it, then tell her exactly what she has eaten.
-
Step 5
Find family friendly restaurants that provide a variety of menu choices. Encourage him to order something similar to some of his favorite foods. You should order a meal that provides different tastes and textures from what you usually prepare at home. When encouraging him to try some of your meal remind him of rule number one.
-
Step 6
If she does not like something after trying it, do not make her eat any more. Praise her for trying it, and explain to her that she will not like everything she tries but by trying everything she will find lots of new foods to eat. Nothing can kill the adventure of trying new foods quicker then making her eat something she does not like.
-
Step 7
As a reward, always finish an experimentation meal with a desert of his choosing.
