The original Eskimo Pie is an ice cream on a stick and first became a popular treat for children during the 1920s. Today, frozen ice cream bars of all varieties are available, but there is a way to enjoy a fresh take on ice cream and cookies with a frozen pie instead. Another version of Eskimo Pie is made with crushed Oreos and vanilla ice cream. If you're looking for a new dessert idea, here's how to make an Eskimo Pie.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup fresh butter
  • 1 package Oreos
  • 1/2 gallon French Vanilla ice cream
  • 1 carton (9 oz.) Cool Whip
  • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 cup caramel syrup
  • 1 9"x13" metal pan
  1. Step 1

Melt the butter. Place the butter in a small dish to microwave until melted, or melt in small saucepan on the stove. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

Crush the Oreos. Leave the Oreos in the sealed package and crush them with a rolling pin. Pour into medium sized mixing bowl.

  3. Step 3

Make the crust. Pour the melted butter onto the crushed Oreos and combine until moist. Press 1/2 the mixture onto bottom of metal pan, and set aside.

  4. Step 4

Prepare the ice cream. Mix the ice cream with the cool whip to create a fluffy and 'whipped' texture. Spread on top of Oreo mixture.

  5. Step 5

Finish the pie with Oreos. Spread the remaining Oreo mixture on top of ice cream filling, and press down gently.

  6. Step 6

Prepare to freeze. Cover pan with plastic wrap, and freeze for at least 2 hours until set.

  7. Step 7

    Cut into large squares.

  8. Step 8

Drizzle chocolate syrup and caramel sauce over the top, then serve and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Use mint or peanut butter Oreos for variation.
  • Garnish with whole Oreos.
  • Try butterscotch syrup for a unique flavor.
  • Eskimo Pie will quickly become a family favorite; make sure you save a piece for yourself!
