Instructions

    • 1

Read as much great writing as you can find. You should especially read excellent writing in your preferred area of writing. Pay attention to how the authors convey emotions, lead from one paragraph to another and how characters are developed. The more of these authors you read, the better able you will be to implement some of their techniques.

Write as much as you can, whether it be a daily journal, short stories or a novel. Focus on the audience for these writings and work to implement what you have found from your readings.

    • 3

Hone your craft through study and feedback. Read grammar books and seek advice from editors and friends who will tell you the truth. Accept their criticism without anger and apply the lessons to your future writings. Over time, you will begin to eliminate your most common mistakes and see your writing improve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never rush writing. Writing requires patience and time to produce great results.

  • Never compare yourself to another writer. Writers have their own style and voices; no two are alike.
