Usually after you move a heavy piece of furniture, your carpet is matted. Vacuuming doesn't help and can actually harm the carpet fibers. Try this method the next time you're facing major or minor carpet dents.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A white or other light colored towel that's large enough for the dent
  • Hair dryer

How to Remove Carpet Dents

Step1
Wet towel with the hottest water you can handle and wring as much out as you can.
Step2
Place towel over dent.
Step3
Turn hair dryer on the hottest setting, holding it about 5 in. above the towel.
Step4
Maintain the heat for about 20 to 30 seconds.
Step5
Remove towel and try to fluff up the carpet with your fingers. If it's still difficult, repeat all steps again.

Tips & Warnings

  • The towel helps keep the moisture and the heat in. Plus, it acts as a barrier so the carpet doesn't get damages.
  • Do not hold the hair dryer too close to the towel. It could cause damage the carpet.
  • If you're going to vacuum afterwards, wait until the carpet is completely dryer to prevent damage to the vacuum cleaner.
