How to Buy Outdoor Gear as Gifts

Too often when shopping for presents for my friends or family, I find myself wondering "how often will she really need/use/wear this?" If you have friends or family members that are interested in outdoor pursuits, this question becomes a non-issue when you invest in buying them outdoor gear.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Money
  • Internet Connection
  • Time

Step1
Ensure what gear your outdoor guy or gal needs. If you want the gift to be a surprise, there are several sneaky ways to do this. You can ask if he has any trips coming up, if he has any gear wearing out, or if he saw the latest gear issue of a popular outdoor magazine and what he thought of a certain product.
Step2
Get specific size information. If you don’t want to come right out and ask her, you can always say you have a friend about her size and are looking for a gift for that person.
Step3
Look first for deals on the web, and then head to a reputable gear store in your area. Look for someplace with a good return policy, and remember that if he chooses to return your gift, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t like it. He may feel he needs something else more, or he may prefer a specific brand.
Step4
If you are at a loss, a book of adventure stories (preferably specific to her sport) or a gift certificate will always be appreciated. Happy shopping!
