How to Put Together a Backpacking First-Aid Kit

When backpacking, weight is key. The first thing you should allow to take up weight is an adequate hydration system. Second is your first-aid kit. It’s not that they have to be heavy, but it is important to have everything you need.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Plan a spot in your pack where your first-aid kit can stay. A small exterior pocket is great.

  2. Step 2

    Invest in something to keep your supplies waterproof.

  3. Step 3

    Must-haves include hand sanitizer, plastic gloves, bandages in a few assorted sizes, bug spray, stomach medicine, headache medicine, pain relief medicine, bandaging material and a thermometer.

  4. Step 4

    Nice things to have include butterfly bandages, prescription pain medication and first-aid book.
