Things You'll Need:
- Reusable bags
- Recycled paper
- Creative packaging
-
Step 1
Consider buying Christmas bags rather than paper. Although it may not be as exciting as tearing open a package Christmas morning, you can reuse Holiday bags and tissue paper for years to come. Simply tie a ribbon around the handle and attach a card so you don’t mar the packaging.
-
Step 2
Use a paper bag. In my house, Santa always wrapped his packages in brown paper grocery bags. Instead of using plastic bags around the holidays, ask for paper bags. Use the paper bags to wrap presents. You can have your child draw pictures, write a poem, or decorate them with a bow to dress them up.
-
Step 3
Use a basket. Instead of wrapping paper, find a discount store that offers cheap wicker baskets. Wicker baskets are useful around the house, and what better way to give a gift of Christmas cheer than throwing together a holiday basket of goodies.
-
Step 4
Purchase recycled wrapping paper. Many stores are trying to go green, so take a look around the Christmas aisle. Although recycled paper costs a bit more money, it’s worth it. Even to switch half of your packages to recycled paper helps the environment.
-
Step 5
Get them a plant. Not only does it not require wrapping, but it helps the environment. To add a festive flare, decorate it with ornaments, or attach gift cards for restaurants or stores they frequent. By gifting a small rosemary tree or orange tree, they will also get a tasty and fragrant treat.
-
Step 6
Be creative. For the teenager that went off to college opt for a laundry basket of household supplies. For the fisherman on your list, put their presents in a tackle box. For the chef in the family, fill a roasting pan with cutlery, cookie cutters, or baking goods. The more creative you are the better.
