Step 1
Boots should be chosen after you have picked out your deck and bindings. Then you will know if you need boots to wear with strap-in bindings or boots that fit a clip-in binding.
-
Step 2
If you are buying your first pair of boots, it is good idea to go to a local snowboarding shop. Look for one that is registered with America’s Best Bootfitters. Have them measure your feet and recommend a few brands.
-
Step 3
You will find three different kinds of lacing systems for snowboarding boots. One is referred to as a quick lace system where laces can be tightened by pulling on one string at the end of the lace. The second is the BOA system, where turning a dial on the lacing system tightens laces. The third kind is old fashioned, hand-operated shoelaces. Try each to see what you prefer.
-
Step 4
Once you have found a pair you like take a few minutes to walk around the store in them. Jump up and down and shift your weight from side to side and front to back. Do the boots provide good support and feel comfortable? If you can lift your heel out of the boot or wiggle your toes excessively you should try a different brand or size.
-
Step 5
Check if the boots will give you blisters. Remove the liner and set your foot inside the boot. If your foot makes contact with the shell of the boot without the liner inserted, it is likely that in the same place, once the liner is inserted, a hot spot or blister will form.

Step 6
Once you have purchased your boots expect to wear them seven to ten times before they start molding to your feet and truly feeling like your own.
