How to Find the Resell Value of a Car

The value of a car is in the eye of the beholder. What your car is worth is based on a number of criteria that is involved from mileage, accident history, interior, exterior, and ownership status.

Things You'll Need:

  • Notepad or scratch paper
  • Internet ready computer
  • Access to a phone
  • Pen
  1. Step 1

    Using the notepad, make a note of the vehicle's mileage, features, VIN #, and any noticeable flaws to the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

  2. Step 2

    Using an internet enabled computer, go to www.kbb.com to get a kelly blue book value. Select the trade-in/private party section under used cars section.

  3. Step 3

    Enter relevant information collected from step 1 into form with corresponding condition and mileage.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also use www.craigslist.com and www.ebay.com auto section, www.recycler.com to get a comparable reference point for a vehicle that is currently listed. That way you get the actual market value' s lowest and highest selling value. You can also use services like carmax to further gauge the value and get a 3rd party opinion.
