Veggie burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to meat, but you don't have to use those frozen varieties. Making your own veggie burgers at home is easy and fast.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Beans, cooked, almost any kind (black, pinto, red, chickpea)
  • Your favorite veggies (spinach, mushrooms, carrots)
  • Shredded cheese or egg or other binding agent, e.g., tahini
  • Diced almonds or pine nuts
  1. Step 1

Dice veggies into small pieces and steam until tender. Let cool.

  2. Step 2

Place beans in medium to large mixing bowl. Using hands, wooden spoon or potato masher, smash beans until the consistency is mushy and paste-like.

  3. Step 3

Add all other ingredients. Mix thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Using hands, form mixture into large meatball-sized chunks, then flatten into patties.

  5. Step 5

Heat cooking oil in large frying pan. When hot, place patties in pan. Fry to desired texture.

  6. Step 6

Serve on whole wheat bun with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and favorite condiments.
