Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese form of medicine that involves inserting thin needles into the body at different points to stimulate healing. It has recently become widely recognized as an alternative to traditional veterinary medicine. To perform canine acupuncture you must become a licensed veterinarian and then receive training in canine acupuncture.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Enroll in veterinary program at a college. If you want to become a canine acupuncturist, you must first become a veterinarian.
Step2
Complete all of the required classes for your veterinary major. Once you become a licensed veterinarian you can begin training in canine acupuncture.
Step3
Receive certification in veterinary acupuncture by attending 10 hours of American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture approved training.
Step4
Inform all of your veterinary clients about the benefits of canine acupuncture. Many pet owners view acupuncture as a painful procedure and even though their pets could benefit greatly from the procedure, they may be hesitant to try it.

Tips & Warnings

  • To keep your certification current, you will be required to repeat the certification process every 2 years.
  • Don't perform canine acupuncture unless you're a licensed veterinarian. If you aren't fully qualified, you can cause pain and injury to the dog you are trying to treat.
