How to Get Perfect Highlights With a Streaking Cap

If you are going to highlight your hair by yourself at home, you might find it easier to do and get better results if you use a streaking cap. A streaking cap, which is sometimes also called a bleaching cap, is a plastic cap with perforations or holes in it.

Things You'll Need:

• Streaking cap
• Crochet hook
• Small paint brush
• Hair highlighting product

1. Buy a streaking cap at a local beauty supply store. You will also need whatever highlighting or bleaching product you use on your hair.

2. Put the streaking cap on over your dry hair. It is best to wait a day after shampooing before highlighting or bleaching your hair.

3. Use a crochet hook to pull small groups of hair strands through the holes in the streaking cap.

4. Apply the highlighting or bleaching product to the strands of hair that have been pulled through the cap using a small paint brush.

5. Follow the package directions for the highlighting product. It might require that you cover your head with a plastic cap. Typically a plastic cap will come with your streaking cap when you buy it. One also probably comes with your highlighting product if it is required.

6. Wait the amount of time specified on the product packaging or until your hair lightens to the desired shade.

7. Rinse off the bleach or highlighting solution with the streaking cap still in place using clear warm water. Remove the cap and shampoo your hair.
