BriteSmile teeth whitening is a patented tooth-whitening treatment. It uses a gel that is activated by a blue-green light with a wavelength in the 400- to 500-nanometer range. The gel is a 15-percent solution of hydrogen peroxide that is buffered to a neutral pH and also contains glycerin and water to ensure safety.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Expect this procedure be completed in a single office visit requiring a little over an hour. The dentist will first examine your teeth for any areas of concern before proceeding.

  2. Step 2

Brush your teeth gently with pre-whitening toothpaste. The dentist will put in lip retractors and positioners to protect your gums from the gel and ensure that all of the teeth that are visible when you smile will remain exposed to the light.

  3. Step 3

Allow the whitening chemicals to bleach your teeth. This is frequently done in multiple sessions during the same office visit. The treatment can make your teeth up to 14 shades whiter, making BriteSmile teeth whitening significantly more effective than tray bleaching at home. Very dark teeth may require more than one treatment.

  4. Step 4

Eliminate bacteria that cause gingivitis and other periodontal disease as an added benefit.

  5. Step 5

Receive the BriteSmile treatment if you are over 14 years old. This procedure should only be performed on permanent teeth that are completely developed and usually lasts 12 to 18 months. Some patients experience a temporary sensitivity to hot and cold but this usually disappears within 3 days.
