Step 1
Evaluate the size of the yard. Sprinkler systems do not fall into the category of one-size fits all. Larger lawns require more watering than smaller lawns. Know which sprinkler systems work best for your size lawn.
-
Step 2
Decide if you need a timer. Automatic timers can turn your sprinklers on and off at preset times. If you spend several days in a row away from your home, an automatic timer ensures that when you come back, your lawn will still be lush and green.
-
Step 3
Consider installing an in ground sprinkler system if the thought of setting up the hose every time you want to sprinkle your lawn is a chore that you would prefer not to do, or if the unsightly lawn hose detracts from your professionally landscaped lawn. They aren't visible and therefore not unsightly like above ground sprinkler systems.
-
Step 4
Determine how much you're willing to spend. The cost differential between going to the local home improvement store to purchase a sprinkler head versus hiring a landscaping company to install an in ground sprinkler system is vast. Figure out how much you are willing to spend before you pick up the phone to call a sprinkler installation contractor.
