Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Measure the size of your bed, including how far over the edges you want your bedspread to drape. It's easy to purchase a bedspread that looks like it fits your bed, only to find out that it's the wrong size and leaves some of the bed exposed.
Step2
Consider the color of your bedroom, and bring a paint chip or fabric swatch with you as you shop for a bedspread if you want it to be a true decorative element. A bedspread is a great place for an accent, so don't feel like you need to match the color to your room. Instead, you can use it as a contrast or complement to the overall color.
Step3
Decide whether you want you bedspread to reflect a theme, or if you just want it to be a solid or patterned element of your decor. For example, if you've decorated your bedroom in the rich colors of India, and Indian patterned bedspread can pull the entire room together.
Step4
Determine what kind of fabric you want your bedspread to be. If the bedspread's function is as a decorative covering for the bed, you can buy one in any fabric. If you're buying it as a blanket, you'll need something warm. If you have pets or young children, be sure that the fabric is easy to care for. If you have allergies, such as to down or wool, take this into account as well.
Step5
Know your budget before you enter a department store to find your bedspread. Having a budget in mind will keep you in line when you buy.
Step6
Read the labels on the bedspread packaging to make sure that the size, fabric and care are right for you.
Step7
Search through Off-priced retailers first. Ross, TJ Max, and Leohmann's are all great places to search for a designer comforter for considerably less money. Scrutinize the comforter before buying from any of these stores for flaws or mis-sizing.
