Talcum powder is made from a mineral called talc, which is purified for consumer use. Fragrance is usually added to commercial versions of the substance. Talcum powder, also called baby powder, is intended for external use as a skin softener; poisoning can result from the ingestion of talc. The product should also not be inhaled, used on broken skin or near the eyes. Despite the warnings, it is easy to apply talcum powder to yourself or your baby.

Pour approximately one tablespoon of talcum powder into your palm.

Smooth the powder onto your own skin after a shower or bath. Use on your legs and arms. Alternatively, you can smooth the powder onto your baby's skin before putting on a clean diaper or following a bath.

Rub your skin or your baby's skin gently until the powder is absorbed. Use more talcum powder as necessary.
