Tenuate is a brand name for diethylcathinone, also known as amfepramone and diethylpropion, and is marketed as an appetite suppressant. It functions similarly to other sympathomimetic stimulants such as dextroamphetamine, phentermine and sibutramine. Tenuate causes the brain to release neurotransmitters such as dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine that suppress the appetite.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use Tenuate for a few weeks as part of an overall weight-control program that includes behavioral modification, diet and exercise. The program should be discontinued when it loses its effectiveness, usually within a few weeks. Tenuate should be stored in a tightly sealed container at room temperature.

  2. Step 2

Take Tenuate for immediate release. One 25 mg tablet of Tenuate may be swallowed whole, crushed or chewed three times per day. Resume your schedule at the next meal if you miss a dose.

  3. Step 3

Swallow one 75mg tablet of Tenuate Dospan once a day for a timed release. If you remember a missed dose on the same day, take it immediately. Otherwise, skip the dose because you should not take two tablets at the same time. This medication must be swallowed whole.

  4. Step 4

Expect the side effects of Tenuate to be similar to that of other amphetamines. You should not take Tenuate if you are allergic to appetite suppressants or have taken a monamine oxidase inhibitor in the last two weeks.

  5. Step 5

Understand that Tenuate is classified as a schedule IV drug and therefore has the potential for addiction. The active ingredient in these tablets is diethylpropion hydrochloride.
