Do a Liver Cleansing

Fatty liver is a condition that affects more that 50 percent of Americans over 50, and is caused by poor diet, alcohol abuse and toxin build-up due to prescription medications, hepatitis and preservatives in food. A periodic liver cleansing can help to prevent gallstones and the build-up of dangerous chemicals and fats in the liver, preventing future problems such as cancer, psoriasis and systemic toxicity.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat five large green apples or drink five glasses of unfiltered organic apple juice for four days, before beginning your liver cleanse. Apples contain malic acid, which helps to break down gallstones and aids in the success of liver cleansing.

    • 2

Select a day for your cleanse in which you can rest fully for both the day of your cleanse and the following day. Help decrease pressure on the liver and accumulation of bile in the gallbladder by eating a fat-free breakfast, such as cooked cereal and fruit. Avoid eating after 2 p.m.

    • 3

Combine 4 tbsp. of Epsom salts with 3 cups of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Place the mixture in the refrigerator to cool. Drink 3/4 of a cup of your Epsom salt and grapefruit juice mixture at about 6 p.m., drinking filtered water afterwards to eliminate the salty taste. Drink another 3/4 of a cup at 8 p.m. Remember that you should not eat after 2 p.m., as an empty stomach is essential for liver cleansing.

    • 4

Mix 1/2 cup of olive oil and 3/4 of a cup of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and shake to combine. Drink the entire mixture at about 10 p.m. Go to bed as soon after as possible, sleeping on your right side.

    • 5

Take another 3/4 of a cup of your Epsom salt and grapefruit juice mixture first thing in the morning. Wait at least 2 hours before eating. When you do eat, select fresh juices, fruits or light soups for the rest of the day.

    • 6

Repeat a full liver cleansing twice a year to prevent gallstones and the build-up of fats and toxins in your liver.

Tips & Warnings

  • Expect to have diarrhea and mild discomfort during liver cleansing, and for a few days afterwards. If you experience nausea, vomiting or headaches, they may be symptoms of systemic toxicity do to the chemicals flushing from your liver and building up in your colon. The best way to eliminate and prevent these side effects is to give yourself a coffee enema or have a colonic.
