LinkedIn is a strong tool for today's high-tech economy. With so much of modern business contingent on image, branding, and other forms of presentation, even a knowledge worker's "connectivity" or success factors are subject to means of presentation. That's where LinkedIn comes in: your online presence on the site presents you as an individual to the business world. Features like recommendations and contacts allow for more in-depth profiles, and more online recognition for you and those in your network.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign into LinkedIn using your email address and proprietary password.

    • 2

Click on the "My Profile" tab to see a representation of your public and private profile.

    • 3

Click on the "Edit" link to the right of each feature on your general profile to change that particular feature. Methodically edit each category including Summary, Experience and Education by working down the page.

    • 4

Click on "Add Photo" to add a photo to your profile or to change an existing one.

    • 5

Click on the "Q and A" tab to change whether you want additional information shown on your public profile.

    • 6

Choose the "Add Position" link to get more of your employment or entrepreneurial information into your LinkedIn profile. Adding positions increases the "completion" of your profile and helps bulk up your status on LinkedIn.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make your profile more robust, continue adding contacts and making recommendations of others in your network. The strengths of LinkedIn are best used by those who keep maintaining and updating their profiles to be present in the LinkedIn "eye" and relevant to new business. Keeping your LinkedIn profile complete and current will give you more access to the buzz that is generated by the website and its many users.
