Your first job is important, no matter how low on the corporate ladder you are starting. You must dress to impress, and therefore you must choose a wardrobe that will put you in a position to get ahead. Making a good first impression is very important in any field, and the way you dress is one the first things your new employer will notice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Have an idea of what work appropriate attire means in your industry. Ask some of your future colleagues, and take a look around when you go on interviews in your field. Some companies are more casual than others, but in most related fields the dress code will be pretty standard.
Step2
Think about the future. Look at each piece you think about buying, and ask yourself if it is going to stand the test of time. Buy only things that you will be able to wear for more than one season, and stay away from new trends that may go out of fashion quickly.
Step3
Pay attention to shoes. When you find a pair that you really love, buy two. Get a neutral brown pair and a pair in black.
Step4
Choose basic colors. You wardrobe for a first job should be basic enough to mix and match to create new looks without breaking the bank. Buy clothes in black, red, navy, white and brown.
Step5
Keep your wardrobe crisp and clean. Don't reveal too much, and don't show up to work with wrinkled clothing. If ironing isn't your style, then buy pieces that are wrinkle resistant.
Step6
Be comfortable in every piece of clothing you buy for a first job. Looking professional is key, but you will never look professional if you are uncomfortable every day at work. Your wardrobe should be functional as well as classy.
