How to Find Telecommuting Summer Jobs

So you need a job, something to put cash in your pocket and fill those long, hot months. Telecommuting means having to provide your own air conditioning, but if you're down with that, new technology and more fluid hiring practices have made it easier to get a temporary gig working from home. It just takes research, tenacity, diligence and more than a little patience.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Find online job lists for freelancers. A large number of these exist, so use Google to find them. The job boards you choose will be your easy reference tools for the jobs that are out there.
Step2
Don't waste time on scams. It's a common opinion that the vast majority of work at home or telecommuting offers are scams; if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Skip the scams and move on. If you can't locate someone to talk to on the phone, it's probably not going to work.
Step3
Highlight your previous telecommuting experience. Since virtually everyone would prefer to telecommute, the jobs are in demand, and as such, you stand a better chance if employers know that you are reliable. With no telecommuting history, they have no way of assessing your track record. Include previous work on your resume.
Step4
Put your best foot forward. Some experts suggest moving from the traditional resume to a more assertive letter of introduction. Either way, you'll want to get your qualifications front and center and into the eye of potential employers.
Step5
Look for temporary "gigs" as opposed to permanent jobs. If it's summer work you're looking for, it's best not to get too involved in interviews for long-term jobs only to be turned down later on for lack of commitment. Make it clear up front that you can only stay a few months, and direct your search toward more transient temporary jobs.
