A swallowing disorder can occur from a variety of different conditions or situations. Learn more about swallowing disorders. Difficulty swallowing can also happen in anxiety and panic attacks, but it is commonly known as Dysphagia. Swallowing disorders are classified as neuromuscular diseases if they prevent someone from being able to eat properly or drink fluids.

Get informed about GERD. Swallowing difficulties can sometimes occur from GERD, known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease, where bits of food is brought back up after eating. Usually you can cure GERD with medications and the swallowing problems will cease.

Know more about the effects of mobility disorders. Stretching of the narrow esphageal passages might occur if the patient is suffering from mobility disorders. These types of disorders can make it harder to swallow.

Consider surgery options. Removal of obstructions and tumors might be conducted with surgery if the patient cannot swallow at all anymore. Swallowing problems that occur from tumors and paralysis will have to be cured with a surgical procedure. These procedures tend to be quick, but the recovery tends to take a longer amount of time.
Step5
Opt for other treatment methods. Severe swallowing disorders will have to treated with a feeding tube to bypass the throat and mouth. Speechologists, neurologists and ENT doctors are usually involved in this procedure.
