Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Ensure that you have a proper environment for recording. Make sure to quiet as much background noise as possible. Set the microphone so you can speak directly into it. As you speak enunciate the words slowly and clearly.
Step2
Use a high-quality microphone. The quality of the sound recording is only as good as the quality of the microphone that inputs the sound.
Step3
Make sure to connect the microphone properly. Plug it into the microphone jack and not the headphone or speaker jack. If the microphone comes with software or drivers be sure to install them properly.
Step4
Position the microphone correctly. Check the directions that came with your microphone to make sure you have it in the correct position.
Step5
Set the microphone volume. On your computer desktop click "Start." Go to "Settings." Next click "Control Panel." Double-click "Multimedia." Set the microphone volume using the slider tab. Be sure to click off the "Mute" box. Click "OK."
Step6
Troubleshoot the multimedia properties settings. Make sure they are set correctly. Click "Start." Next go to "Settings." Then go to "Control Panel." Double-click "Multimedia." Click the "Audio" tab. When the "Recording" dialog box opens, make sure the correct microphone is the "Preferred Device." If not select the correct microphone.
