Instructions

1
Determine how high and wide you want the final podium you build to be.
-
2
Construct a three sided frame, keeping the widest side for the front of the podium you are building. If you decide to have shelves in the base of the podium, construct the supporting framework for those shelves at this stage as well.
-
-
3
Cover the framework with the final wood you would like such as oak or cherry. This should provide you with the basic U shaped podium. If you choose, you can use raised panels to provide more detail for the outside of the podium. This will enhance the appearance of the final product.
-
4
Embellish the podium you've built by installing wide baseboards around the bottom, crown moulding to enhance the details of the podium and some quarter round moulding on the top to hold a book or paperwork in place. These embellishments can be as elaborate as you choose or you can leave them off altogether to create a more contemporary podium.
-
5
Add industrial strength locking wheels to the bottom of the podium to allow ease of movement when needed. Be sure they are locking wheels to prevent untimely movement during usage.
-
6
Putty over all seams and cracks.
-
7
Stain the podium the color of your choice. Protect the finish by applying at least one coat of polyurethane.
