1
Get comfortable in the saddle before you allow the horse to gallop. If you are not comfortable on the horse or have confidence with getting the horse into a gallop, do not attempt it.
-
2
Practice standing up in your stirrups while the horse is just walking on trotting. This will give you the confidence of standing in the stirrups before you have to do so when the horse is galloping.

-
3
Adjust the stirrups to your comfort. When you are standing in the stirrups you should clear the saddle completely. Make sure you are comfortable with the stirrups height before attempting a gallop.
-
4
Ride the horse for at least 10 minutes before moving attempting a gallop. This ride should be done in a walk or trot only. This will allow you to get comfortable on the horse and will also allow the horse to get warmed up and comfortable with you and the surroundings.

5
Pick up speed with the horse after it has warmed up and slowly build to your ultimate goal.
-
6
