Step 1
Hire an eco-friendly contractor. Look in your yellow pages for contractors and see what their ads say. If they are unclear, don't be afraid to call and ask. Contact your local contractor board for recommendations or the local Better Business Bureau office in your state. Word of mouth recommendations are a great place to start, too. Ask friends who have recently remodeled using an eco-friendly contractor or builder.

Step 2
Investigate eco-friendly products to use in your remodel. There are many companies who are jumping on the bandwagon. Research the products you are looking for: flooring, cabinets, insulation, counter tops, carpeting and almost anything else you can think of is now being offered in eco-friendly options.

Step 3
Consider energy efficient options during your remodel. If you are remodeling to the extent of changing walls, lighting or other major changes, consider adding some energy-efficient changes as well. This could be eco-friendly insulation, energy efficient lighting and alternative energy options.

Step 4
Go all the way. Hire an eco-friendly interior designer. They can take care of all your decorating needs using eco-friendly products that are not only a great way to support the sustainability of the planet, but are gorgeous to look at.
