Pulled and pushed putts are the bane of golfers everywhere. If you've ever carefully lined up a putt, only to watch it spin away from the hole, then you've experienced one of these classic putting errors. Fixing consistent pulled and pushed putts is a challenge, but as long as you're willing to change your technique, you'll see improvement.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An old CD
  1. Step 1

Line your eyes up directly over the ball at address. You'll create more errant putts if you line them up to the left or right of the ball's center.

  2. Step 2

Change up your grip. Lots of players on the PGA Tour switched to a Saw Grip to combat their pulled putts. It's an effective way to keep your hands and arms moving forward straight through the ball.

  3. Step 3

Try a few putts with your eyes closed. When practiced repeatedly, this drill will boost your feel for the putter head and the ball. It should also make you more aware of any pushing and pulling you're doing during the stroke, making it easier for you to eliminate it.

  4. Step 4

Place a ball on an old CD that you don't mind scratching. The shiny side should be upright. Address the ball and look at the reflection of your eyes on the CD. If they're inside the ball, lean forward a bit. If they're outside the ball, lean back until they're over its center.

  5. Step 5

Find a putting stance that's comfortable for you and that allows you to line your eyes up over the ball. If you're either too far away from or too close to the ball, you'll have a tendency to compensate during your stroke, which leads to pulled and pushed putts.
